First being; a new song I wrote!  It’s definitely different to the stuff I’ve written in the past.  I would call it more of a hymn, and a song of devotion to the One I love.

My Devotion

temporary, is the world and all it has to offer me

I just got back from a funeral of an aunt in Malaysia.  This song kept recurring in my head the past few days, as I am reminded of the frailty and could I say ‘temporary-ness’ of being human.  We sow our lives into what we believe is most important, yet when we are called home, we take nothing with us but only the goodness we’ve sowed into the lives of others.  Death is a great reminder of what is most important in life.

Aunt Joyce lived a life of generously sowing into the lives of others, with no motive, no restraint.  I wish to live like this, with no other intention but to love others, to build and sow into another’s life and wanting absolutely nothing in return.

As you grew up, you got so strong and you pulled real hard on your leash.
You always sat at the backseat of the car, and you jumped out the window once when you saw Brian in the distance.
You stole char siew pao from the kitchen table.
You learnt to bark from your Sheltie cousin Spud.
We never needed a doorbell, cos we had you.

You did obedience training, and you were always friends with the littler dogs.
You’d pick fights with the bigger dogs.
You had a biggest bag of tricks a dog could ever learn:
1. sit
2. stay
3. fetch
4. stand
5. heel
6. speak
7. get your leash
8. bang! (play dead)
9. beg
10. pray
You even learnt tricks at 10 years old.

At about 5pm everyday, you’d get excited cos it was time for your walk.
Your favourite thing to do on a walk (after a pee and poo) was to take a home a coconut with you.
I’d wash your feet after every walk.

Your favourite snacks were lamb balls and apples.
You were afraid of thunderstorms, you’d nudge me everytime. If I wasn’t home, you’d secretly climb on the bed and snuggle there and jump off right before we came home.
You used to follow me to every room.

You lived 13 long years as my best friend and loyal companion. You brought more joy to my life than words could ever say. I’m sorry for the times I wasn’t with you, but if I could re-live it I would, and I would have taken you out every time you gave me your leash.

Though I wasn’t the perfect owner, you were the perfect dog. And you were the perfect gift from God.
We never exchanged words, but we didn’t need to.

Echo – my 13 year old puppy, I don’t think I will ever get over you, I will miss you so much, you are forever in my memories and thoughts. Love you forever.

I’m feeling very thankful and very blessed for all your support last night.  Was a wonderful one hour set beneath the stars, with a view of Singapore’s skyline PLUS fireworks!  How mad is that?  What a wonderful birthday present for me.

Hope you guys enjoyed the night as much as I did.

I have also to thank my awesome band with whom I could not have done without!  Love you guys v. much.

I know there’s been bad press about the low attendance to the Celebration @ Marina Bay gigs, and I do feel very much for all the artists who put in all the effort in putting on a good show.

But you know what, even if there’s only two of you tomorrow, I’d sing my heart out for you guys anyway.

Upon contemplation of the gig, here are some reasons why I think you should come:

1.  There’s not going to be another YOG in Singapore until at least 400 years later.  And do you really wanna miss that?  Even your kids might not be able to experience a YOG in Singapore (unless they live till about 290 years old?)  Why not celebrate now? – actually I heard this fact from a young girl on TV, so I’ll take her word for it.

2.  It’s gonna be fun.  I’ve got the coolest 17-year old violinist, a cool drum machine, and best of all, a RAPPIN’ PASTOR.  How cool is that.  I’d come just for that.

3.  It’s a beautiful venue beneath THE STARS.  come and we can sing kum-ba-ya together.

4.  It’s FREE, hear that!  Everything’s better when it’s free!

5.  I’ll be doing a dance number.

Last reason may or may not be true.  Come tomorrow night to find out.
